the way it was meant to be
So, I've got a mix of good news and bad news, so I'm just gonna start. First, shortly after my last message, the State was under a mandatory shut down order. Non-essential businesses were to close and remain closed until the order was lifted. And Personal Care Products (PCP) was not on the list of exemptions. Also, as a result of the pandemic, one by one, the events I had signed up to vend at were cancelling (some did try to reschedule but they all cancelled eventually). Around then, I also did a financial analysis of the store and determined it wasn't doing well, and the shut-down just made it worse. So I made the difficult decision to shutter the store permanently. It took all of April to move everything out and reset it back up in the house (no easy task!). But I am (mostly) setup and production has been moving along. The good news is: I'm still here! I'm still making soap and having a blast doing it! I just poured a batch of Harvest Spice. Nice!
A farmer's market that I count on for regular sales was on the fence about opening (farmers' markets were on the exemptions list), and they weren't sure which vendors beyond the farmers they could/would include. Eventually, they did decide to open, albeit 2 weeks later than originally scheduled. And my soaps were allowed in as they met the markets mission. Whew! I had a second farmers market that started in June, and just wrapped up a few weeks ago.
I've also been busy trying to get/keep the website up to date with all the products I offer. No small task, let me tell you! I still have a bunch of photos to take and upload, but I will get there.
For those of you who purchase via the website and have it delivered, please note: USPS is, temporarily, raising its rates through the end of the year. Just be aware it will cost a bit more to have your items shipped, and I am sorry. For some of you who live local to me, I will soon be offering delivery for a small fee. As soon as I work out the delivery area, I wil let you know.
As to the rising cost of shipping: it has been costing me more to get supplies shipped to me; in some cases, the shipping cost is 50% of the cost of my supplies! As a result, I am going to have to increase the price of some of my offerings. Soaps will go up $0.25 (except the Coffee Kitchen and What a Good Dog Shampoo). Changes will not go into effect until Jan 1, 2021.
Wow, this is really long, and I applaud you for getting this far. I will leave off for now and will update soon (I promise!).
This is me at one of the HSCG conferences that I regularly volunteer at.
